This week, the company began bringing other employees in leadership positions back to the office, again on a volunteer basis. About one in four leaders at the company have shared their intent to return voluntarily, according to Walker.

Walker said the leadership team that came in voluntarily helped inform the decision on whether certain positions would be hybrid or remote, and that making sure employees would have the right technology capabilities and security safeguards in order to serve USAA members was key.

Its remote platform includes Zoom for video conferencing; Slack for instant messaging; and Mural, a digital whiteboard. USAA is continuing to adhere to social distancing and other Covid requirements. The work environment is looking closer to pre-pandemic, though, as company has removed its mask requirement for fully vaccinated employees. The company has also installed UV sanitizers on all its escalator rails and antiviral companies for touch surfaces such as elevator buttons.
